ASME The tradition of service and philanthropy that characterizes ASME and the ASME Foundation goes back to the Society's founding in 1880.
SUPPORT OF ANDREW CARNEGIE As one of many important donors to ASME, Honorary Member Andrew Carnegie recognized the benefits the Society gave to the world as leader in technical innovation. Carnegie also knew that many valuable initiatives would be impossible without his support.
100 YEARS LATER As ASME grew in size and importance over the next decades, Members sought to increase their charitable impact. By the time of the Society's Centennial in 1980, these efforts had led to many new need-based programs focused on serving the needs and expectations of members. The ASME leadership realized that the tradition of people like Carnegie would be increasingly important to realizing the Society's philanthropic mission.
THE ASME FOUNDATION In 1987, after several years of planning, the ASME Board of Governors founded The ASME Foundation as a way to maintain the Society's commitment to charitable service for and by the mechanical engineering profession.
OUR MISSION The ASME Foundation, through fundraising and philanthropy, proactively supports and encourages the mission and vision of ASME to advance the future of engineering for the benefit of society.
