The ASME Foundation Grants Program is open to ASME Sectors only.
The ASME Foundation accepts grant proposals from ASME Sectors (Centers Sector, Strategic Management Sector, Institutes Sector, Knowledge and Community Sector and Codes and Standards Sector). Any unit of ASME may submit a grant proposal for an eligible project with sponsorship from one or more of the ASME Sectors listed. The ASME Foundation Board of Directors has identified three major areas of significance for which proposals are accepted:
Technical Literacy The profession and the world will prosper most in a technically literate society of informed citizens, and because technology is the true servant of humankind in a modern society, the Foundation will seek to invest in early (K-12) math and science literacy and, at the college level, tuition assistance and scholarships for engineering students.
Career Planning and Skills Development One of the core principles behind the founding of ASME in 1880 was to promote and provide training to ensure the highest levels of competence. Then as now, as technology advances, continuing education and development of management skills for engineers is critical to maintaining public safety. Career Planning and Skill Development Grants go to programs that offer new avenues of training and better access to education. Winning proposals have included customer needs assessment programs, on-line and video training services, job banks and readily available, cost effective career and skill development options.
Technologically Sound Public Policy Stewardship to help insure that technology is a servant to all, is equally important to the rational development of technology-based public policy. ASME needs to be the voice of reason at the table whenever and wherever technology-based decisions are made that affect public policy. The Foundation will invest in programs to help provide the needed voice of reason, through unbiased technical advice, to the government at all levels.
The minimum amount that an ASME unit may seek grant funding for is $20,000.
Proposals are accepted from July 1 to August 15 for the review process starting in September. The Board will review recommended proposals at its November meeting, and decisions will be announced following that meeting.
